Green Superfood Smoothie Bowl

Yes, it’s cold outside.

Yes, I just figured out that according to Ayurvedic medicine, my Dosha is primarily Vata and therefore, I should probably be eating warming foods and not raw cold smoothies (now, I’m starting to sound crazy, I know).

Yes, I have learned that if I respect the basic rules of macrobiotics, I should only eat locally sourced seasonal foods (and maybe back off of the freeze dried, imported, exotic superfoods I have come to love oh-so-much).

NEVERTHELESS, today I wanted a superfood smoothie bowl. And I am slowly learning that despite the innumerable dietary theories out there, the most important thing we can do is to listen to our bodies. So I made a green superfood smoothie bowl and it was a.w.e.s.o.m.e.


Green Superfood Smoothie Bowl


  • 1 cup almond milk (I used homemade almond milk flavored with cinnamon, vanilla and dates)
  • 1 handful swiss chard
  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1 ½ tbsp. almond butter
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 banana room temperature
  • 1 tbsp. manuka honey
  • ½ tbsp wheatgrass powder


  • Raw cocoa nibs
  • Goji berries
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Shelled Hemp seeds


  • Blend the smoothie ingredients. Pour into a bowl. Decorate with the toppings. Photograph for Instagram. 😉 Serve and enjoy!
