Green Tahini Smoothie
One of the best blender moments for me is when I throw a random ingredient into a smoothie and with the total understanding that there is a 50/50 chance the smoothie will actually be edible, the smoothie comes out delectable. Yesterday I decided to make a smoothie with tahini (toasted ground hulled sesame seeds). I had never done this before, had never even thought of it. I, however, had recently purchased a supersized jar of tahini (I use it a lot in dressings!) and due to the incredible nutritional benefits of sesame seeds (i.e. rich in beneficial minerals like calcium selenium zinc and magnesium and their phytosterols are known to lower cholesterol), I decided to dump a few tablespoons into my green smoothie.
The results were outstanding, to say the least. I mean seriously. YUM
Ingredients:
- 1 cup soy milk (or any other non-dairy milk)
- 2 large handfuls of Swiss chard (stems removed)
- 2 tbsp. tahini
- 4 dates
- 1 frozen banana
- seeds from 1 vanilla bean
Instructions:
- Blend (I used my Vitamix)
- Serve
- Enjoy!
Simple!!! (and really really good! I even surprised myself…)
*If you don’t have Swiss chard on hand, I bet spinach, kale or any other leafy green would work well in this recipe as well
